Wine Pairing with Soups

It's the perfect time of year for soup! It can be challenging to pair wine and soups. In this post, we'll show you a few ideas of soups to pair with AmRhein's wine.

Black Bean and Pumpkin Soup paired with Traminette

Pureed pumpkin and black beans is a perfect combination with AmRhein's Traminette. This is a delicious soup that is even better reheated the next day. Easy to make too. Serve with a garnish of sour cream, toasted pumpkin seeds or croutons if desired. Try out the recipe here.

Chorizo and Roasted Corn Chwder paired with AmRhein's Vidal Blanc

The spiciness of the sausage in this chowder is a wonderful counterpart to the corn's sweetness. Smoky and spicy notes comes through from the chorizo and is balanced beautifully with the sweetness from the corn. Let this soup warm you up. This soup pairs wonderfully with AmRhein's luscious fruit flavors in our Vidal Blanc. See the recipe here.

Shrimp and Crab Bisque paired with AmRhein's Chardonnay

This decadent creamy Shrimp and Crab Bisque is one of the favorites during our annual Soup & Wine Weekend at the winery. It's made especially for us by Ben Ward, Chef of Bent Mountain Bistro. It's full of seafood goodness and pairs perfectly with our smooth and crisp Chardonnay. The recipe Ben uses is from his family...and he's not sharing, but here's a recipe that you can try that would create a delicious pairing as well.

Southern Taco Soup paired with AmRhein's Aglianico

This Southern Taco Soup is easily one of the favorite around our house. With just a few stable ingredients you can make it in the crock pot and leave it to cook all day. Don't be shy with the seasonings, we've found that the more seasonings you add, the better Aglianico tastes- highlighting the French oak and cherry notes. Try this recipe tonight!

Hearty Venison Stew paired with AmRhein's Petit Verdot

Finally, our last featured food and wine pairing is a 'stick-to-your-ribs' venison stew served with AmRhein's Signature Wine, Petit Verdot. This rich wine, featuring dark plums, blackberries and spice is accented by the beefy goodness in this stew. The secret is to add a bottle of Petit Verdot to the broth and to add about 15 juniper berries. These berries are prevalent now during the cold months. Try this recipe and let us know what you think. Delicious soups have graced many family tables for years. Finding the perfect wine to compliment your soup just makes the meal extra special.
